Americans are spending a lot less filling up their cars than they were a few months ago. So what will they do with the money saved at the pump?
Gasoline prices have been dropping steadily since regular unleaded peaked at $5.02 a gallon in early June. As of Wednesday, it cost an average of $3.76 nationally, according to AAA. That compares with $3.19 a year ago, but with front-month gasoline futures prices down significantly more than retail prices since June, retail prices are cued for further declines.
