Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the , and sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the declined 1.09% to hit a new 52-week low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the were Tui AG (LON:), which rose 3.37% or 3.65 points to trade at 112.00 at the close. Rentokil Initial PLC (LON:) added 1.81% or 8.40 points to end at 473.50 and Carnival PLC (LON:) was up 1.48% or 7.40 points to 508.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ocado Group PLC (LON:), which lost 5.32% or 23.30 points to trade at 414.50 in late trade. Legal & General Group PLC (LON:) declined 5.18% or 11.60 points to end at 212.30 and Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:) shed 4.95% or 43.00 points to 826.60.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1362 to 479 and 425 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.72% or 12.10 to $1,687.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 2.00% or 1.82 to hit $89.31 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 1.79% or 1.72 to trade at $94.47 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.94% to 1.12, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.27% to 0.87.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.55% at 112.44.
